What do we mean by excellent fundraising?

Excellent fundraising is fundraising that inspires people and organisations to give, and provides the resources in order that those organisations fulfil their objectives. Excellent fundraising is values-driven, ethical and effective and treats supporters fairly and with respect.

An excellent fundraising organisation is one that adopts a strategic approach to achieving its objectives; embeds excellent fundraising throughout its organisation, including in its staff, volunteers and trustees; continually reviews its practices and makes improvements, innovates through ideas and technology, and invests in staff, volunteers and systems.

Our role in raising standards

We have long been at the heart of developing standards for excellent fundraising. Although previously our role had been as a formal part of the regulatory system – when we set the Code of Fundraising Practice – today we continue to play an important role in organising fundraising sites and diaries, working with local councils, and maintaining high standards for the sector.

We are a formal observer to the Fundraising Regulator’s Standards and Investigations committees and to the Scottish Fundraising Standards Panel and through our own Standards Advisory Board and Scottish Standards Advisory Board we develop our views on good practice for the sector.
